From north to south along the wooded coastlines of California, makeshift shelters, camp sites, wind breaks, and sculptures of driftwood become an 800 mile statement of calligraphy, each gesture expressing the individuality of its maker in swift bold strokes written and erased in the sand, casting silhouettes against sky and sea. While very ephemeral improvisations, every placement is a balance between prospect and refuge in the immensity of space.
